The EBA is an independent organization whose goal is to promote and develop business and trade relations between Europe and North Korea .
The overall situation in this country has for some considerable time been characterized by strong political tensions, coupled with isolation and self-isolation of the country. Such conditions very strongly restrict the successful development of legitimate business and trade relations, both directly and indirectly. However, business and trade relations can assist in helping to overcome isolation. This contributes to normalization and exchange and is also a contribution to the preservation of peace in the Northeast Asian region.
Founded on many years of experience in North Korea , the EBA is in a position to professionally advise and support European companies in accessing the North Korean market. The EBA service ranges from operational business relationships to investments, to the mutual benefit of the European and the North Korean side, and includes all local administrative affairs.
We are apolitical, open and transparent, and generate real value for our members and partners on both sides.
Our commitment is based on the firm conviction that economic and trade relations between Europe and North Korea hold great potential in terms of economics and the promulgation of peace, and that we are in a position to contribute to the realization of this potential.
The EBA consists of three legally independent but closely linked organizational entities, which carry out their roles and responsibilities with their respective authorities.
The Pyongyang European Business Association (EBA PY) was founded in April 2005 by the representatives of European companies based in Pyongyang. From the start, there was a good contact with the Korea Desk of the European Commission. In numerous meetings with delegations from politics and business, the EBA have brought in their local knowledge and increased perceptions of North Korea as an economic and trading partner. Since autumn 2007, the EBA Pyongyang has taken part with a joint stand in the international trade fairs that take place in Pyongyang regularly in spring and autumn. This EBA role has been used by an increasing number of European companies adopted for the trade fairs as a starting point for membership and intensive collaboration with the EBA.
With the founding of the European Business Association Pyongyang in Germany (EBA Berlin) in April 2008, the economic networking between North Korea and the European Economic Area has been set on an institutionalized footing.
The EBA and EBA PY Berlin work together towards their goals, connected by the liaison office PY Berlin in Pyongyang .
In addition to our services and assistance in the business sphere, with the office for academic relations, we have in the summer of 2008 brought to life a new field, which will accompany and support our work from an academic point of view with functions and projects. The aim is, first, to contribute to a better understanding of the country, its economic potential and its conditions for trade and economic relations. On the other side, the possibilities for economic cooperation with Europe should become clearer for the Korean side.
